Sonoma County launches Green Halo construction waste management plan and recycling tool
SANTA ROSA, CA | April 08, 2025
Permit Sonoma has launched a new construction and demolition recycling platform for tracking construction and demolition waste. This platform will help reduce waste and increase compliance with state environmental goals. Effective May 5, all building and demolition projects in unincorporated Sonoma County are required to use the Green Halo web-based platform to track recycling activities and meet recycling thresholds.
The Green Halo system (www.greenhalosystems.com) streamlines the reporting process for construction and demolition waste. Project applicants must recycle 100 percent of inert materials (such as concrete, asphalt, soil, and stone) and at least 65 percent of all other construction waste. A recycling plan must be submitted via Green Halo when applying for a permit and finalized before the permit is closed.
“The Green Halo program helps Sonoma County support a cleaner environment by reducing construction-related landfill waste and tracking compliance in real time,” said Brad Cannon, building manager at Permit Sonoma. “This is an important step forward in our commitment to sustainability.”
To help users, Permit Sonoma has developed training materials, a recorded webinar, and step-by-step guides on the Green Halo Help page. A public webinar will be held on Friday, April 18, from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. via Zoom.
