Applications for Curbside Chipper Program open to unincorporated residents
Sonoma County announced today that Permit Sonoma has begun accepting residential applications for the Curbside Chipper Program. The service supports residents of unincorporated Sonoma County in creating defensible space around their homes, neighboring roadsides, and reduces vegetation along access routes. Read full story
Sonoma County outlines timeline for updating land-use policies through General Plan
Sonoma County today embarked upon a comprehensive overhaul of its General Plan, a more than eight-year initiative that will shape development, conservation and land-use policies in unincorporated areas for a generation. Permit Sonoma to host Housing Element workshops February 12 and February 15
Permit Sonoma will host two virtual Housing Element workshops on February 12 and 15 to solicit feedback from the community about housing needs and challenges. The public will be asked to share their experiences with housing in Sonoma County including identifying local amenities that make for good housing sites and identifying barriers to securing housing. Based on public feedback, Permit Sonoma will create policies and programs in the Housing Element report to address the challenges and opportunities highlighted during the workshops. Read full story
PlanningCommission to hear draft winery events ordinance on February 17
The Sonoma County Planning Commission on Thursday, February 17 will consider a draft ordinance that reduces the impacts of winery events in agricultural areas. The draft ordinance would apply to new and modified use permit applications for winery visitor-serving uses in agricultural zoning districts outside of the Coastal Zone. Read full story
Environmental impact study next steps for Sonoma Developmental Center
Permit Sonoma, Sonoma County’s planning agency, presented the project description framework to guide the redevelopment of Sonoma Developmental Center during this week’s meeting of the Board of Supervisors. The proposed framework incorporated aspects of the three alternatives previously presented to the public on November 1, 2021, as well as feedback from two community workshops with over 250 participants, five community meetings and an online survey with over 720 entries. Permit Sonoma, Sonoma County’s planning agency, released a proposed project description to guide redevelopment of the more than 900-acre Sonoma Developmental Center campus in Sonoma Valley. Permit Sonoma, in partnership with communitymembers, fire agencies and local organizations, released an updated draft ofthe Community WildfireProtection Plan for public review.The plan provides wildfire hazard and risk assessments, community descriptions,options for addressing issues of structural vulnerability to wildfire (homehardening) and provides a prioritized list of projects which, if implemented,can serve to reduce wildfire hazards.
