Community service districts (CSD) are separate legal entities, own their assets and infrastructure.
- District 1 - South Park County Sanitation District
- District 3 - Graton Community Service District
- District 4 - Sea Ranch Sanitation Zone
- District 5 - Sonoma Valley County Sanitation District
- District 7 - Occidental County Sanitation District
- District 8 - Penngrove Sanitation Zone
- District 9 - Russian River County Sanitation District
- District 10 - Geyserville Sanitation Zone
- District 11 - Airport/Larkfield/Wikiup Sanitation Zone
- District 12 - Canon Manor
The County Board of Supervisors acts at the CSD Board of Directors except for the Sonoma Valley CSD (which is comprised of the Mayor of Sonoma, the First District Supervisor, and the County Board of Supervisors’ Chair).
Sanitation zones (SZ) have assets and infrastructure owned by the Sonoma County Water Agency with the County Board of Supervisors acting as the zone Board of Directors.
- Graton elects their own Board of Directors.
- Sewage from the Canon Manor area is governed by the City of Rohnert Park (with waste going to the City of Santa Rosa Llano wastewater treatment plant).
- Permit Sonoma issues building sewer permits for Forestville.
