In November, the Board of Supervisors will be voting on amendments to the local building code. These new regulations will be effective January 1, 2023. The August 30, 2022 workshop is your opportunity to voice your opinion and concerns. Options, above and beyond the minimum code requirements, being considered are:

Energy Consumption and Efficiency

  • Construction of all electric homes
  • Heat pumps, energy storage and additional solar systems
  • Applying these to new construction, remodels and/or additions

Housing Options for Temporary and Emergency Housing

  • Tiny homes as permanent structures
  • Tiny homes as temporary housing units
  • The use of recreational vehicles as temporary housing units
  • Allowing private property owners to provide homeless shelters

This second public workshop is to allow the Board to consider upcoming code amendments and to provide direction to staff regarding the triennial building code cycle and housing options. Your input can shape the future of Sonoma County by participating in these decisions affecting the environment, housing affordability and homelessness. We want to hear from you!

Members of the public are encouraged to participate remotely, receive information and provide comment to the Board of Supervisors and Permit Sonoma. The workshop will be accessible in English and Spanish on Zoom.
