Sonoma County Building & Fire Code Updates
The new building and fire codes became effective on January 1, 2023. Permit applications received before December 31, 2022 are not required to meet the new codes, and will instead be reviewed and permitted according to the 2019 codes. Read full story

Revised Third Party Plan Check
As part of our continued pursuit of process improvements, Permit Sonoma has revised the Third Party Plan Check policy (BPC-013). The goal of the revision is to reduce permit processing time by removing some of the obstacles in our previous practice. Read full story
Streamlining Building Permit Process
Effective Monday, May 27, 2019, Permit Sonoma will no longer require or offer building permit site reviews in most cases as one of our new process improvements focused on reducing building plan check lead times. Read full story
Update on Building Permit Turnaround Times
As many of you know, in this competitive job market, our entire industry is experiencing a challenge in recruiting and retaining skilled building staff. Permit Sonoma currently has a 40 percent temporary shortage in staff members that review building permits.
