Critical Land Uses
Land uses of particular concern from the perspective of safety compatibility are residential uses, uses attracting large concentrations of people, and uses in which the occupants have reduced effective mobility or are unable to respond to emergency situations. Schools, hospitals, nursing homes, and other uses in which the majority of occupants are children, the elderly, or handicapped are examples.
Other critical uses include those posing the risk of above-ground explosions or the release of toxic or corrosive materials. Critical uses also include public utilities or facilities which would cause significant public inconvenience or hazard if they were disabled by an aircraft accident. Examples include public waterworks, wastewater treatment plants, power generating plants and substations, and public communication facilities.
