Hazardous Materials Team Responds to Overturned Tanker
Santa Rosa,CA | May 31, 2019
At approximately 7:30 pm last night, at the request of the Timber Cove Fire Protection District, Sonoma County Fire Division’s Hazardous Materials Response Team responded to an overturned tanker truck carrying gasoline. The location was near mile post 39 on Northbound Hwy 1.
A successful stinger operation was initiated and the situation was mitigated. A stinger operation punctures the overturned tank and transfers fuel to the awaiting recovery truck. Approximately 4,800 gallons of gasoline was off-loaded and pumped into the transfer vessel. There were no injuries or environmental damage.
Responding agencies included: Timber Cove FPD, CHP, Sonoma County Hazmat Team, City of Santa Rosa Fire Hazmat Team, Cal Trans, Cal Fire.
The Hazardous Materials Division is responsible for emergency response to hazardous materials incidents throughout most of the County in coordination with local response personnel. This team, which has completed rigorous training and state certification, consists of paid department staff as well as volunteers from the community who are trained to respond to any level of hazardous materials incidents in the county.
