Tanker Rollover HazMat Response Near Sonoma

At approximately 10:30 AM on Saturday, November 16, 2019, Sonoma County Fire Prevention and Hazardous Materials Unit responded to an overturned tanker on Highway 121 near Sonoma.
The tanker contained approximately 4,500 gallons of fuel, and approximately 3,000 gallons spilled on the ground. A successful stinger operation was initiated and the situation was mitigated. A stinger operation punctured the overturned tank and transferred fuel to the awaiting recovery truck. Sonoma County Fire Prevention was assisted in responding to this incident by Cal Fire, California Highway Patrol, Sonoma Valley Fire & Rescue Authority, Caltrans, Napa County Fire Hazmat, and the Department of Fish & Wildlife.
Permit Sonoma’s Fire Prevention and Hazardous Materials Division is responsible for emergency response to hazardous materials incidents throughout most of the County in coordination with local response personnel. This team, which has completed rigorous training and state certification, consists of paid department staff as
well as volunteers from the community who are trained to respond to any level of hazardous materials incidents in the county.
