Update 2026

In April 2025, FEMA indicated via press release that the Building Resilient Infrastructure & Communities (BRIC) program will be discontinued. The State of California has informed the County that phase 2 implementation funding will not be awarded. Additionally, the Wildfire Adapted and Hazardous Fuels Reduction projects have also experienced significant delays in awarding and releasing implementation funding. Given this uncertain environment, Permit Sonoma is pausing grant activities for federally funded wildfire mitigation activities after September 30, 2026. We continue to monitor changes closely, complete remaining grant obligations, and leverage existing efforts and partnerships where possible.

BRIC-Funded Curbside & Full Assessments

Wildfire Resilient Communities (formerly known as BRIC) supports the community by evaluating properties for defensible space and structral vulnerabilties, identifying priorty site for large scale vegetation management, and offering workshops, webinars, and resources to help educate residents how to reduce wildfire risk from home outward and the landscape inward.

Free Home Hardening & Defensible-Space Assessments

The Wildfire Resilient Communtities (WRC) project supports property owners by providing defensible space and home wildfire risk reduction assessments. Through community workshops and resourses the WRC project helps property owners understand and priorotize wildfire risk-reduction projects.

Navigating Today’s Risk For A Safer Tomorrow

SoCo Adapts is adminstered by Permit Sonoma. Funded through FEMA the County of Sonoma, our grants tackle wildfire risk "house-out, landscape in," giving residents expert advice and on-the-ground support - with zero code-enforcement risk.

A free vegetation management opportunity for private property owners in select locations. The goal of this project is to reduce wildfire risk to life and property while fostering healthy landscapes that are resilient to wildfire.

SoCo Adapts works side-by-side with local fire districts including CAL FIRE, Sonoma County Fire District, Rancho Adobe Fire District, FEMA, Fire Safe Sonoma, Cal OES, and other trusted organziations to bring cutting-edge science, training, and resources to Sonoma County. Sign up for a free Home Wildfire Risk Reduction Assessment through SoCo Adapts, Sonoma County’s wildfire resilience program. This service provides homeowners (in select areas) with an expert evaluation of property vulnerabilities and practical recommendations to improve defensible space and structural resilience to wildfire.
