Building Inspections Are Scheduling 8–9 Days Out

Permit Sonoma is currently experiencing an 8–9 day delay in scheduling building inspections due to overlapping staffing transitions and a seasonal increase in inspection requests. We have recruited replacement inspectors who are completing training and are actively working to increase inspection capacity. Other permit types are not affected.

When the next available inspection is more than seven days away, our automated phone scheduling system, Selectron, cannot accept the request. You can schedule your building inspection through our Permits Online portal, and no account is required.

We’ve created an illustrated step-by-step guide to walk you through the process. One important thing to know: blue dates on the scheduling calendar do not necessarily indicate availability. A date is available when you select the “All Day” button and continue.

What we're doing to reduce the backlog

Permit Sonoma is using several strategies to increase inspection capacity:

• Authorizing overtime to increase inspection availability.
• Temporarily using staff from other sections to support inspections.
• Enabling VuSpex video inspections for water heaters, furnaces solar projects, and energy storage systems. As these permits are issued, a VuSpex inspection will be added to the permit, allowing video of completed work to be uploaded for inspection. • Permit Sonoma is also exploring a third-party inspection program in which vetted, credentialed ICC Building Inspectors could conduct inspections and provide the inspection documentation and history to Permit Sonoma. This is not currently available, and details including fees and auditing requirements still need to be worked out.
